Here's a progress photo of the Italian village commission I've been working on. I'm beginning to flesh out more of the details, but still need to add light and shadow. Also depicted are my patron's two children which she asked me to include.
Quote of the Day "Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony."
For those of you in the Denver area you can see an exhibit of my work at the Denver West Barnes & Noble store. The "art wall" is located by the coffee shop. My paintings will be on display there through February 15.
Wild at Heart Original 16" x 20" x 0.75" painting Golden, Liquitex, and Chroma acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas
Mountains and Prairie Sky Original 18" x 24" x 0.75" painting Golden, Liquitex, and Chroma acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas
Today's work includes a new floral piece entitled Wild at Heart, which is a variation on my signature Abstract Poppies composition. The other new painting, Mountains and Prairie Sky, is a variation on a few different compositions I've done over the years depicting the juxtaposition of mountains, prairie, and big skies.
Quote of the Day "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."
These photos depict the process I'm using to paint the Italian Villa commission discussed in yesterday's post. The first one is the sketch on canvas. I put down a warm sienna wash first. The second has color roughed in. I will be using warm Mediterranean colors. As I put the color down I try to develop areas in the background and the foreground equally - i.e. the sky and tree. Rather than paint the tree on top of the sky, I try to develop them together.
Quote of the Day "Life is a process. We are a process. The universe is a process."
This study is for my patron - a long-time customer - who's bought several of my paintings. My work hangs in her home in Denver, her aunt's house in Spain, and her parents' home in Belgium. She asked me to paint a composition of her husband's family home in Coccolia, Italy based on photos she'd sent. I provided a sketch of the composition for her approval before I put paint to canvas.
Quote of the Day "If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people."
Field of Poppies Original 24" x 36" x 0.75" painting Golden, Liquitex, and Chroma acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas
Fruit Stand (Commission) Original 30" x 40" x 0.75" painting Golden, Liquitex, and Chroma acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas
My newest work includes a landscape composition entitled Field of Poppies, as well as a commission from a composition I created several years ago entitled Fruit Stand. The commission was for a patron from Austin who has bought many of my paintings - so many, in fact, that she has run out of wall space in her home in which to hang them.
Quote of the Day "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
Autumn Path XXVI Original 24" x 36" x 0.75" painting Golden, Liquitex, and Chroma acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas
My first painting of 2010 is the latest edition of my signature composition Autumn Path. For those patrons who reside in the Denver area I will be having a show at the Denver West Barnes & Noble starting late next week. I'll post an announcement here on the FAB (Fine Art Blog) and on my web site after my paintings are up!
Quote of the Day "If there is love, there is hope to have real families, real brotherhood, real equanimity, real peace. If the love within your mind is lost, if you continue to see other beings as enemies, then no matter how much knowledge or education you have, no matter how much material progress is made, only suffering and confusion will ensue."
