Signature Series Commissions

Dear Friends,

I'm so excited about using these amazing, self-stretching, large format canvases from Big Daddy Canvas. Starting this week, I'm offering what I call my Signature Series Commissions.

Quaking Aspens

I'll be drawing from my body of work - 10 years of compositions - for the series, and featuring them on my sales venues Etsy and Yessy. You may also select compositions from my web site portfolio.

Lemon Tree

These paintings will be new original paintings of my original compositions, available on 48"x72" or 36"x60" self-stretching canvases.

Fall on Young America Road

The compositions I'm selecting are among my favorites, and have been highly sought after by my patrons over the years. I hope you enjoy these paintings.

Creek in Autumn

Creek in Autumn
Original 22" x 28" x 0.75" painting
Golden, Liquitex, and Atelier acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

Today's painting was inspired by photos I took last fall. While I'm anxious for warmer weather, spring and autumn are my favorite seasons to paint. This is a new composition for me, which I hope my patrons enjoy. The soft touch of the clouds and red leaves, and the illusion of space are the challenges I enjoy when creating a painting like this one.

Tip of the Day
One of the first things we discuss in our workshop on selling your art online is defining your goals. Why are you putting your art online? Are you establishing an online presence for your work? Hoping to sell your work online? Do you want to put your portfolio online? Increase your exposure to galleries, publishers, and patrons? It's important that you define your goals for putting your work online, so that you have a clear direction on what it is you hope to achieve, and so you can take the necessary next steps to realize your goals.

Blustery Day

Blustery Day
Original 24" x 36" x 0.75" painting
Golden, Liquitex, and Atelier acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

We've had some really windy days this winter and spring, which were the main inspiration for this painting. I also liked the motion that this painting conveys. I borrowed the tree shape from my Twisted Apple Tree series, which I normally depict as a springtime painting with pink blossoms--and which my patrons thoroughly enjoy.

My husband and I presented a workshop today on selling artwork online at our local Jerry's Artarama in Englewood, CO. We presented 90 minutes of a 6-hour workshop that we'll be giving at Colorado Free University on April 25 from 9:00-4:00. We had a tremendous turnout at Jerry's today--60 people! I want to personally thank everyone who attended today, as well as the staff at Jerry's for their assistance and professionalism. We are hoping to offer our full workshop at Jerry's in the coming months, so stay tuned!

Young America Road Commission

Young American Road Commission
Original 34" x 40" painting
Golden, Liquitex, and Atelier acrylics

Today's work includes a commission from my Young American Road series. Young America Road is where my brother used to live in Germantown, New York, by the Hudson River. I spent the latter years of my adolescence in the Hudson River Valley, and often draw upon my memories and family photos as inspiration for paintings of that area.

Utah Sunrise Manti La Sal National Forest V

Today's work includes the newest edition in the Autumn Sunrise series, done on four 16" x 20" canvases (total width: 64"). This painting's big sister sold over the weekend to a new patron in New York, and will be on its way to its new home today.

The newest edition in the Utah Sunrise series also has a big sister that shipped today to its new home. My family and I were on vacation two years ago, and were camping in Utah when I took the photo that inspired this series.

Today's paintings include a new, larger version in the Abstract Apple Tree series. I'm using more earth tones in my decorative line of paintings.

I also completed a commission in the Autumn Aspens series for a patron who's a school teacher in Oregon.

Red Trees and Shadows Commission

Red Trees and Shadows Commission
Original 42" x 56" painting
Golden, Liquitex, and Atelier acrylics

This commission was requested by a new patron who found this composition in my portfolio on my web site. She requested a much larger version of it than I had previously painted, and I was quite happy to accommodate her. Since she lives in Canada, and shipping a stretched painting of those dimensions was going to be prohibitively expensive, we opted to ship it unstretched, and she will have it stretched at a local frame shop where she lives.

Still Life with Blue Wall Commission

Word of the day: prolific. Some days I wake up and paint from dawn til dusk. I managed to produce three new paintings to list on my sales venues, AND two commissions!! I LOVE my job! The Sunrise Poppies series is hot right now, so I had to paint another one of those. Sunrise and Autumn Trees is a variation on a composition I played with last summer. Four Abstract Trees is the latest incarnation in the Abstract Trees series, and the first time I've done it on four canvases.

The Red Poppies on Yellow and Still Life with Blue Wall are both commissions. My commission work has really picked up in the past few weeks, for which I'm very grateful (thank you patrons!).

Red Trees and Shadows IV
Original 60" x 36" x 0.75" painting
Five 12" x 36" canvases
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

Still Life with Daisy Bouquet and Red Vase VI
Original 18" x 24" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvases

Today's paintings are two of my compositions that both my patrons and I enjoy. The Red Trees and Shadows piece is a composition that I originally painted when I started out as a working artist. I've done several commissions of this painting, but this is my first multi-canvas rendering.

Still Life with Daisy Bouquet and Red Vase is a recent composition that has been very popular. This one is the latest in the series.

I'll be shipping the Alaska commission tomorrow (yay!) and starting on several new commission orders that came in last week. My commission work has really picked up, along with sales on my selling venues. I have the best job!

Alaska in Early Fall

I think this painting is done (yay!). I sent a proof to my publisher earlier today, who said it was "superb", and has forwarded it to the client for approval. Here are some closeups:

Alaska Commission Update - 2/25/09

Alaska in Early Fall
Original 60" x 60" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylics

Here's the latest photo of my Alaska commission. I still have some work to do on it, but it's coming along nicely. My publisher is happy, so that makes me happy too. I hope to finish it up tomorrow, unless he asks for changes.

I need to get busy. I'm working on a painting to list tonight on my sales venues. I'll post an image of that later on.

Fauve Landscape IV
Original 22" x 28" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

This is a new composition in the Fauve Landscape series. The Fauvists were noted for their use of bright colors. The most notable of the Fauvists was Henri Matisse.

New Commission

Autumn Sunrise Commission
Original 48" x 36" x 0.75" painting
Two 24" x 36" canvases
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

I work with an interior designer in Farmington, New Mexico who requested a commission of this painting as a diptych. My Autumn Sunrise II painting sold last week on one of the venues where I list my work, and she asked me to reproduce this composition for her condo in Durango, Colorado.

Tomorrow I'm going to get started on the large Alaska wilderness commission.

Autumn Aspens IV

Autumn Aspens IV
Original 48" x 30" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

I painted this diptych yesterday in between working on some commission work that came in this week. I have been busy getting started on those, but I still feel compelled to get some new originals done and listed on the sites where I sell.

My publisher in the Atlanta area has requested a 60" x 60" painting for a client, and I have to get going with that. I also just finished a commission for an interior designer in New Mexico of an abstract piece.

My UK broker has received the embellished giclee prints I sent out last week, and is supposed to give me some feedback on them this weekend. As much time as those take to embellish I'm hoping for a big order from the samples I sent.

Today's Paintings

Red Grass and Cypress Trees
Original 48" x 30" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

Twisted Apple Tree with Pink Blossoms IV
Original 24" x 30" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas

Today's paintings are the latest in my seasonal, decorative line of paintings. For today's work I chose Autumn and Spring--my favorite seasons of the year. Red Grass and Cypress Trees is a new composition using the cypress motif that I started with over five years ago when I decided I was going to make a living as an artist. I haven't had to get a day job since.

Twisted Apple Tree with Pink Blossoms IV is a composition that is a favorite among my patrons, and one that I really enjoy recreating. The pink blossoms really pop against the blue sky, which is one reason why I think this composition sells well.

New Line of Decorative Paintings

Autumn Sunrise
Original 30" x 40" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylic paint on gallery-wrapped canvas

I'm starting a new line of decorative paintings this week--large canvases, bright colors, more abstracted works. My goal is to get three or four of these painted and listed on a daily basis, so please check back, and please browse my listings on the venues where I sell my work. I'll be updating the New Paintings section of my web site too with images of my new decorative line as well.

I finished the embellishing work on the giclees for my UK broker today, and am getting those ready to ship by Friday. I'm excited to have more time to devote to painting originals again, and have a lot of canvases on order for my new line of originals.

Autumn Path Series

Autumn Path XXI
Original 24" x 30" x 0.75" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylic paints on gallery-wrapped canvas

This is one of my favorite--and most popular--compositions. I love the palette in this composition, the atmospheric perspective, and the contrast of the fall foliage and blue sky.

You may find this painting, and others in my newly listed work, at the online venues in my links section on the top right of my blog.

I'm still cranking out the embellished giclees for my UK broker, but I had to take a break from the action to paint an original for today's listings. I typically have two or three new paintings to list on a daily basis, so please go to one of my sites to see my current offerings.

Embellished Giclee Prints

Red Leaves and Shadows

Original 24" x 36" x 1.5" painting
Golden and Liquitex acrylic paints on gallery-wrapped canvas
Reproduced as a giclee print

This painting is one I did a couple of years ago which my broker in the UK selected from my portfolio. He has ordered embellished giclee prints of my work for a high-end condo development project in Portugal that he's working on.

My local printer--Denver Digital--is using Ultrachrome K3 inks on artist's canvas, and I'm embellishing the prints with Liquitex and Golden acrylic paints. Most of my time for the past two weeks has been spent on the embellishing work, but I have also managed to produce some new originals for sale.

My hope is to expand my business to include giclee reproduction sales to interior designers and architects. I use high-resolution TIFFs taken with a Canon PowerShot Pro 1 camera at 300 dpi for prints.

I currently sell my reproductions of my work on artistrising.com, which also includes art.com and allposters.com. You may do a keyword search for my work using Patty Baker on all three sites. There is also a link to my work on Artist Rising on the top right of my blog page, and my web site.
